ACCESS STATEMENT

Introduction

The 14-bedroom guest accommodation, trading as “The Hayward”, can cater for the needs of many visitors. The following statement is a summary of the facilities provided. If you have any questions which haven’t been addressed in the statement, please get in touch.

Pre-Arrival

  • The physical structure and layout of the building makes the premises unsuitable for people with a serious mobility impairment.
  • It is possible to accommodate guests with a hearing or visual impairment if they are accompanied so as to ensure their safety.
  • Information about the Hayward can be accessed via its basic website.
  • Contact is available via a standard telephone or e-mail. Details can be found on the final page of this statement.
  • This access statement is available in all the Welcome Folders. A version in a larger font is available on request
  • The nearest bus stop is an approximate 1 minute walk away.
  • Trams go right along the Promenade from Starr Gate to Fleetwood. The nearest tram stop is a 4-minute walk away.
  • The nearest major station is Blackpool North, which is either a 1 minute car or taxi journey away or an approximate 4 minute walk.
  • Blackpool International Airport is a 20 minute car or taxi distance away.
  • A taxi can be booked for you. Please ask.
  • For the most up-to-date information on public transport accessibility issues, please contact the relevant authority. Please ask at reception for help via the internet if required.
  • Blackpool town centre is approximately a 5 minute walk away, a 2 minute taxi ride away.
  • Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

  • If arriving by car, you may park for a maximum of 2 hours using the pay and display on road outside the Hayward during the hours of 9am and 5pm (free after), or contact reception for help and a map and prices of car parks. Car parks are an approximate 4 minute walk away.
  • Assistance with luggage is available.
  • A contact telephone number is displayed externally on two different signages: both are standard in design.
  • Main Entrance & Reception

  • Access to the standard single-width front entrance door is via a flat and very slightly sloped concrete path, with a small step down into the property
  • If required, writing material will be provided on arrival.
  • The entrance hall is on the level and has a short-pile fitted carpet.
  • Seating, without arms, can be provided in the entrance hall near to reception.
  • An escorted familiarization tour of the ground-floor public areas is given to all guests.
  • Telephone contact is available during the hours of 8.00am to 11.00pm. An answerphone is switched on at other times. (If the call is from a guest, the call will be answered at all times.)
  • All prices are available at reception. A large print version is available on request.
  • Doors to the bar and dining room all lead off the hall.
  • Public Areas - General (Internal)

  • The building has 4 floors, ie ground, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Except for bedrooms, all public areas are on the ground floor.
  • Corridors, stairs, bedrooms and public areas are well lit and have a fitted short-pile carpet.
  • The stairs from ground floor to all floors are of normal dimensions
  • Public Areas - WC via bar, is on the level
  • Dining Room, Bar & Lounges

  • All meals are served in the dining room on the ground floor.
  • Dining room furniture can be moved on request.
  • Chairs are all without arms.
  • Menus can, if required, be provided in large print.
  • Special diets, ie vegetarian, can be catered for with prior notice. Anyone with a life-threatening allergy, ie peanut, shellfish, cannot be catered for.
  • Background music to both the dining room and the lounge bar is provided via a radio station.
  • The lounge bar doesn't have set hours, but is generally open after breakfast service and is closed at about 11.00pm.
  • The bar lounge which has large windows overlooking the front is open to residents at times when the bar is open. It has mainly sofas and chairs and furniture can be moved on request. A large screen TV and video/DVD player is located here.

    Bedrooms

  • There are 14 bedrooms in total.
  • All bedrooms are fitted with a short-pile carpet.
  • 9 bedrooms are en-suite, 5 are standard with shared shower and toilet facilities
  • There are 5 bedrooms on the 1st floor. They comprise of: 1 standard double, 1 standard twin (2 single beds) 1 en-suite triple (1 single bed and 1 double bed, one en-suite quad (4 single beds) and 1 standard single
  • There are 6 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. They comprise of: 1 standard double, 2 en-suite doubles (1 double bed in each), two en-suite triples (3 beds in each) and 1 standard single.
  • There are 3 bedrooms on the 3rd floor. They comprise of: 2 en-suite triples (1 double bed and 1 single bed in each) and 1 en-suite quad (4 beds).
  • Not all double beds are accessible from either side.
  • All bedding is non-feather.
  • Some furniture in the bedrooms is not movable.
  • Each bedroom has a colour TV with Freeview with remote controls.
  • All beds are divan beds.
  • Each room has a basic electric kettle.
  • All bedrooms have a standard fire door and smoke detectors.
  • Bathroom, Shower-room & WC [En-suite or Shared]

  • 9 bedrooms have en-suite facilities containing a step in shower with small step, a toilet and a wash basin.
  • 5 bedrooms are standard rooms and each contain a wash basin, the shared shower and toilet facilities contain a step in shower with small step, a toilet and a wash basin.
  • All en-suites/shower rooms have non slip flooring with a bath mat supplied, non-slip in-shower mats are available on request.
  • Grounds and Gardens

  • There is a small, level terrace at the front of the property, which is lined with large pots containing plants and flowers.
  • The terrace flooring is patterned concrete. A number of wooden benches provides a seating area.
  • Smoking is permitted outside on the terrace. A wall-mounted ash bin is provided for the safe disposal of cigarette butts.
  • Additional Information

  • The Hayward is open all year with the exception of Christmas.
  • From 1st July 2007 smoking will not be allowed in any part of the building.
  • A fire alarm is fitted which rings very loudly on all levels.
  • Front doors can be used for evacuation.
  • Emergency lighting is fitted to all levels.
  • With the exception of guide dogs, no other pets can be accommodated.
  • There is a water-filled fire extinguisher on all floors.
  • There is generally a good reception for mobile phones from all areas.
  • Medications, special dietary foods & baby milk can be stored in the kitchen fridge. Although not available 24/7, a cool box with frozen ice blocks is available for night-time use.
  • All rooms are provided with a Welcome Folder. Amongst other useful information, this contains telephone numbers for emergency medical and dental services.
  • In cases of emergency between 11pm and 8am there is a door bell located outside the bar door to contact the owners.
  • The Hayward is situated just 2 roads back from the Promenade.
